Morning Joe Blasts Trump’s ‘Garbage Can’ Riff: No Candidate Has ‘Trashed America’ This Much Since ‘The Confederacy’
Morning Joe host Mika Brzezinski accused former President Donald Trump of “disparaging America” in reaction to the Republican nominee’s anti-immigration “garbage can” riff, as co-host host Joe Scarborough claimed that no presidential candidate has “trashed America” this much since “the Confederacy.”
At a rally appearance in Arizona on Thursday night, Trump slammed immigration policy under the Biden administration: “We’re like a garbage can, you know, it’s the first time I’ve ever said that. And every time I come up and talk about what they’ve done to our country, I get angry. First time I’ve ever said garbage can, but you know what, it’s a very accurate description.”
During the eopening segment of Friday’s Morning Joe, Brzezinski said that while Vice President Kamala Harris led a star-studded rally in Georgia, “Donald Trump was in two swing states out West disparaging America and praising an autocrat.”
“I think he said America is a garbage can,” she added.
Scarborough then laid into Trump’s take by comparing him to the states that seceded in 1860 and fought in the American Civil War.
You know, all these Republicans that used to be conservative, [telling those opposed to Trump] ‘oh, you don’t love America.’ [They] don’t love America. There’s never, in the history of the United States of America since the Confederacy, of course, been a president or a candidate for president that has trashed America as much as Donald Trump constantly trashes America.
He compared Trump to Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, who he said “loves America.”
If he is in power, it’s great again. If he’s out of power, it’s a garbage can. Kamala Harris has been saying time and time again, she loves America. She believes in America. It’s just… it’s really crazy.
Brzezinski rounded on Republicans who still chose to support Trump for president: “It’s interesting. Often, we talk about how some of the people who are still showing for Donald Trump, and Republican leaders in Congress who still stand by him, and yet you here Trump, in the past day or so, absolutely just ripping to shreds his former generals, the people he hired. If he brings you in, make no mistake, he will turn on you, too.”
