‘The Most Disgraceful Behavior By Republicans In My Lifetime’: Gingrich Lets Loose on House GOP
Former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich ripped congressional Republicans amid their ongoing inability to elevate a candidate to his old position. He saved his harshest criticism for the eight Republicans who voted to oust Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from the post more than two weeks ago.
His remarks came hours after Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) canceled a third vote of the House to decide whether he will be the next speaker. He failed to notch enough votes on ballots cast Tuesday and Wednesday, but despite the setbacks, Jordan said he is still running.
Gingrich appeared on Thursday’s edition of Kudlow on Fox Business, where the host joked he voted for Gingrich on his nonexistent ballot.
“I wrote you in,” Larry Kudlow told him. Gingrich chuckled before letting loose on House Republicans – particularly the ones who voted to remove McCarthy:
These folks have gotta calm down. The level of anger, the level of hostility in the conference – all of it started by the eight traitors. That’s what they were – traitors, who abandoned their party and allied with the Democrats against 96% of the Republican Party with no idea what they would do if they won. They have caused chaos. They have embarrassed the Republican Party and they have weakened the United States at a time when there are two major wars underway. And it’s really, truly, I think the most disgraceful behavior by Republicans in my lifetime.
McCarthy was ousted after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) filed a motion to vacate the chair, which triggered an automatic vote of the House on whether to remove him. Gaetz and seven other Republicans joined the Democrats in voting yes, which was enough to end McCarthy’s speakership.
