‘Are You Really Sure?’ Fox’s Cavuto Challenges GOP Congressman Insisting Trump Is ‘Appalled’ About Navalny
Fox’s Neil Cavuto seemed to express some skepticism that former President Donald Trump would be “appalled” by the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, as one Republican congressman believed the ex-president would be once he broke his silence on the news.
During Monday’s Cavuto Coast to Coast, Cavuto welcomed Rep. Pat Fallon (R-TX) as a guest, and the conversation turned to Trump’s apparent silence on the news that someone who actively opposed Russian President Vladimir Putin had died while in prison.
Fallon insisted to Cavuto that Trump would have a strong statement coming, but Cavuto did not look convinced:
Cavuto: I’ll pick up on that theme about Putin being dangerous, Russia being dangerous, even though Donald Trump doesn’t share that view. What do you think?
Fallon: No, I think Neil, clearly Putin is very dangerous. He’s invaded a sovereign nation, is responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths. And the question is, you know, you have to understand and appreciate the fact that Russia’s unique. They have 6,000 nuclear warheads. And so the other state sponsors of terror, we have Cuba, Iran, Syria, and North Korea are smaller states and not nearly as potent, if you will, as Russia.
So the trick is here, though, if [President Joe Biden] is going to make threats to Putin and say, “You better not harm Navalny,” he has to back it up. Because we know it’s just a bluff. And once you are a known bluffer, people aren’t going to listen to what you say.
Cavuto: So you’re right about the dissident Alexei Navalny. He’s dead now, and still having a devil of a time finding his body at a morgue. That’s a separate issue. But Donald Trump has not said anything about that. And some are beginning to sense that he, by not saying anything but being very complimentary to Putin by spending more time blasting NATO nations that don’t keep up with their bills, that he’s sending a signal to Putin, and it’s a dangerous one. Do you agree with that?
Fallon: No. Honestly, Neil, I don’t. I think that the president will eventually comment on Navalny’s death, and I’m sure he’s going to be, like you and I and the rest of the country, would be appalled.
Cavuto: Are you sure of that? Are you really sure of that?
Fallon: Well, I mean, that’s what I think. And I think we’ll tell, you know, time will tell in the next few days.
Trump did make a statement on Truth Social on Monday that mentioned Navalny’s death, but had little to do with Navalny and more to do with Trump’s own mounting legal woes.
